However, the mention of the status of SED display technology caused a bit of unease for Canon President & COO Tsuneji Uchida who still arrogantly claims that Canon has done nothing wrong. On May 3, Nano-Proprietary won a lawsuit seeking to void a licensing agreement between -Proprietary and Canon. “We greatly respect the intellectual property rights of others,” Uchida said, “as well as our own.” That said, he said that Canon would appeal the verdict. It is also continuing development of SED displays, Toshiba continues its support and according to a company spokesperson, Canon will introduce SED in Japan in the fourth quarter in very limited quantities. However SHN has been told that SED TV Technology could well be launched in Australia next year.I don’t know about you, but the fourth quarter of this year is coming up pretty quickly. Canon will have to pull a rabbit out of the hat to get SED TV on retailer’s shelves by the end of this year.

The idea that Nano wanted to void the contract with canon for the simple reason that the latter had struck an agreemnet with Toshiba is ludicrous. It’s pretty obvious that they were looking for an excuse to renegotiate the contract with Canon, possibly with pressure from a competitor such as Samsung, who have shown interest in SED.
A Canon-Toshiba duo would be unbeatable on teh market. Canon alone? Would people trust a newcommer in the HDTV business? The Toshiba branding would surely help.
If SED is really out in Japan by the end of the year, it might be reason to celebrate. But how expensive will it be? Remember how the Qualia line flopped? Somehow I doubt the average consumer would see the difference in picture quality. We here are a little different. Hopefully I will be proven wrong.
