Displaying typical Canon arrogance Company Chairman Fujio Mitarai has claimed that he expects his company to win a patent-related dispute in the United States and pursue its plan to enter the flat-panel television market.
“I don’t think we will lose” in the continuing litigation brought by Nano-Proprietary. Mitarai said during a meeting with analysts in Japan. This is despite the fact that a US recently slammed the Company in a US court hearing. Many analysts tip that Canon will not win the case against Nano-Propietary however there is a chance that Canon may be able to buy their way out of an embarrasing situation which has been caused more by Canon arrogance than good business sense say people close to the case.
According a Canon company spokesman. Texas-based Nano-Proprietary in December cut off its licence agreement with the Japanese electronics giant for trying to share the patents with Toshiba and other firms. Currently Canon and Nano-Proprietary are trying to work out a settlement before the U.S. court rules on damages due to the U.S. firm, according to people familiar with the negotiations.
Canon is set to face massive damages payouts over it’s plans to enter the SED TV market. It is also tipped that Canon in Japanese style will find an excuse to suddenly say that SED TV is no longer viable a situation that Toshiba welcomes as they plan to continue with SED TV technology, possible with another production partner.

GO Cannon JP!!!!!!! ‘m a fan of CRTs but can’t use LCDs so I’m hoping if they include SEDs I could surf the net on my new SED TV using a Nintendo Wii or something for now nothing can replace a Trinitron monitor except SED

CRT’s are OK for anyone with a budget, but once you get into higher resolution displays, e.g. 1920×1200 CRT just doesn’t do it as well and 3840×2160 you can just forget about on CRT. Too much beam blooming when the scan-lines start getting tight.
SED will fix all of that, it will be exciting to see if they make it to market anytime soon. Just hope they are less then twice the cost of competing formats.

I hope they can come to an agreement, that doesn’t end up increasing the cost of the SED displays to the consumer, and get these on the market within a 1 1/2 or less. I would welcome Samsung and anybody else into the technology. The more the better. Mr. Mitarai maynot need an excuse because the SED technology has passed the critical timeline. Now with LED LCDs and RPTVs and much better Plasmas all coming soon and prices coming down considerbly the SED technology may not be able to compete price wise. It is a real shame, Canon really blew it.

This ticks me off. Nano halted SED TV production at the last minute on a technicality. Have you seen the price for the Pioneer Eliets? I’m not saying that SED wouldn’t be exspensive at first but the image quality is there out of the box. Without SED thats were going to be stuck with, expensive upgrades for Plasma and LCD every 1-2 years that in some ways are still playing catch up with “old trusty”.
