Canon’s flat panel TVs to arrive in 2007

(Business Times (Malaysia)

CANON Marketing (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd, the local marketing arm of Tokyo-based electronics giant Canon Inc, will introduce its flat panel television to Malaysians in the fourth quarter next year.

Canon Malaysia’s consumer imaging and information division assistant director Calvyn Laang said he expects demand for flat panel TVs to pick up further as the Beijing Olympics approaches.

The TVs, which use surface-conduction electron-emitter display (SED) panels technology, will help Canon make display panels that are thinner than conventional flat screens.

This may be one of the first country specific releases announced for SED TV. It’s interesting that it has been announced by Canon instead of Toshiba or SED Inc. Any comments?
