Notice Regarding Litigation with Nano-Proprietary Involving SED TV
Posted by SED TV Guy under SED TV[3] Comments
Canon Inc. announced today that the trial of the case brought against it by Nano-Proprietary, Inc. relating to flat-panel SED televisions concluded on May 3, 2007 in Austin, Texas. Nano-Proprietary’s fraud claims against Canon were dismissed and the jury returned a verdict that Nano-Proprietary had sustained no damages. All claims against Canon USA were also dismissed.
Canon intends to appeal the Court’s previous determination that Canon had breached the patent license agreement between the companies, terminating that agreement and allowing Nano-Proprietary to retain the original $5.5 million purchase price for that license.

To the letter of the law, they (Canon) did not violate the agreement. Sam Sparks ruling wasn’t based on the letter of the law, but rather an interpretation of the law based on voting shares. It will be interesting to see how this plays out, but a ruling based on “interpretation” sure doesn’t seem very sound.

It now appears that sed tv’s are on line for mass production by Canon. It is unfortunate that all these court proceedings are taking so long for arrival to these wonderful tv’s to the masses. I believe Canon will do very well with the sed technology once people see the quality that it will provide. Lcd,oled, and plasma technologies are continuing to develop but sed continues to set the standard in terms of superior technology in the development of televisions.

Amen Dave, let’s hope the greediness that launched all these lawsuits are a thing of the past (doubt it). But, leaving aside the lawyers for one minute we can only now hope that a fast track to production will mean that in two years time we might all have SEDs at home, making our early adopter LCD, Plasma friends jealous they didn’t wait.
