Quote from the Toshiba SED TV site:
“Sorry, this site has closed
Thank you for using it for a long time. Please continue your favors toward the Toshiba homepage in the future.”
Hopefully we’ll see SED TV back on the Toshiba site again in the future. I just don’t think it will be the near future unfortunately.

So, where does this leave SED? I have been putting off purchasing a plasma or lcd for over a year now, should I continue waiting or should I give up and go ahead and purchase ?
confused

I’m planning to start an “Alternatives to SED TV” page as there are many people who don’t want to wait two more years to get one. I’d like one but I need something before that.

I was looking forward to SED but I couldn’t wait for this technology. Not liking any of the LCD or plasmas, and the fact that the better resolution of HD is wasted if the screen size is too small, I decided to just go real big. I bought an HD70 DLP front projector and screen. My picture is 92″. There are setup issues (like room darkness) and the lamp life considerations with front projection but I was willing to accept them. I am very happy with this setup and the price was amazing for the size.

SED has no chance. Any company that can figure risk vs reward will never put a SED tv on the market. LCD and plasma have too much of a head start (and even in those areas competition is a bloodbath and profits are shrinking). You should give up, and purchase an LCD or plasma. 1080P plasma will be a bit more affordable soon if you want something to brag about as superior to what your friends have. If you just want something functional, either LCD or plasma is great, much better than in the past. I suggest you buy about one size bigger than you think you need at first glance. The extra money now will save you a lot more in the future by delaying your temptation to upgrade.
