Smarthouse.com.au has reported that Samsung has made approaches to get access to SED TV technology.
This came after Canon faced the possibility that it may have to drop SED TV technology after a US court ruled that Canon violated an agreement with Texas-based Nano-Proprietary.
Samsung insiders say this has opened up the door for them to investigate the possibility of obtaining a licence to produce SED TVs.However, barring an overturning of the decision at appeal, Canon will need to sign a new deal with Nano-Proprietary before any products can come to market. Damages in the case are still to be decided.
First came Toshiba SED TV, then came Canon SED TV. Can Samsung SED TV really be next? What are the possibilities that Canon would drop this entirely after years of research and who knows how much in development costs?

So Canon buys license from Nano. Canon sets up joint venture with Toshiba to comply with Nano’s rules. Nano gets offers from other interested parties (e.g. Samsung) who are offering more cash monies. Nano feels stupid for licensing technology out so cheaply to Canon, and wants to re-negotiate for more money (but has no grounds to.) So Nano claims Canon is being dodgy in the way they structured the deal with Toshiba. Judge Sparks agrees, and allows Nano to terminate the agreement.
Nice…
Customer looses here I guess… good for Nano though… Assuming Samsung enters the market; how many years out are they? I imagine they don’t even have a working prototype at this point.

Also; just to clarify, I thought Nano only owned the patent to a COMPONENT of SED. How much of SED is exclusive to Canon besides maybe the name?
