It seems like FED TV technology is rapidly pulling ahead of SED TV. Sony recently showed off a 19″ FED monitor attached to 4 PS3 consoles playing Gran Turismo 5 at 240 fps!
Audiences were said to be absolutely amazed by the lack of flicker and the quality of the picture.
There is a good story with some great graphics on how FED TV technology compares to OLED technology at sonyinsider.com. Do check it out.
Field Emission Technologies has stated that they plan to release professional FED monitors starting next year. Perhaps FED TVs will follow.
Thanks to Brian R. for the tip.

I WAS JUST WONDERING MODERATOR HOW YOU HAVE
MANAGED TO REACH THE CONCLUSION THAT FED IS AHEAD OF SED, WHEN SONY THEMSELVES STATE THAT
2010 IS THE EARLIEST POSSIBLE DATE FOR RELEASE
OF FED ON TO THE MARKET IN A RESTRICTED RANGE
AM I MISTAKEN IN THINKING SED WAS DISPLAYED
IN PREPRODUCTION SIZE OF 55 INCHES IN 2006!
AND BEFORE THAT IN 2005 IN 37 INCH SIZE, AS WE ARE ALL AWARE CANON HAVE WON THE COURT APPEAL WITH APPLIED NANO TECHNOLOGY, THEY ARE FREE TO EITHER USE THEIR CARBON COATING ON THE SED EMITTERS, OR THEIR OWN COATING OF
TIN, AND ARE THEY NOT EMPLOYING OVER 600
PEOPLE AS WE SPEAK TO MAKE SED FOR RELEASE
IN 2009! WHILE SONY ARE STILL IN THE LAB STAGE WITH FED, AS THIS IS THE TRUE SITUATION AT THIS POINT IN TIME, ONE HAS TO
QUESTION YOUR MOTIVES IN MAKING SUCH A STUPID STATEMENT!

Yeah, but Canon is alone this time. It´s a very tough task even for a big company like Canon to develop and manufacture a brand new type of TV/monitor. Especially when they don´t have any experience and most of all (had) no competence for that. They started almost from scratch. Most companies cooperate to do that.

Well, it looks like my source in Japan was right or partially right about the project cancellation. This is too bad as I still hold Canon and would like to see these sets built. Are you going to delete my message again or listen this time? I might have good news in the future.

I remember your previous comment Graham. I just don’t know where it ended up. Sorry. If you’d like to re-post it here please go ahead. I appreciate any news or tips that anyone can offer. Thanks.

Sorry, I stand corrected.Found my early November post still on this site giving the bad news. Hopefully, something was skewed to the negative during the translation and there is hope for the future. I’ll let you know if I here anything new.
