Well crap! What’s going on with Toshiba, Canon and SED Inc.? The latest news has the SED TV as a no show at CES2007.
With info from ZDnet
“The reason is neither a technical nor business issue, but we are not allowed to disclose details due to confidentiality obligation,” the note read. “Toshiba further believes that the issue will be resolved soon, and then we will be able to come back to the U.S. for a 55-inch SED demo.”
I’m not happy as I was very much looking forward to seeing the SED TV there and providing all kinds of useful info and photos. Also, I’ve never been to Vegas.
One report says it’s due to the lawsuit between Canon and Nano-Proprietary. Whatever the case, there will be thousands of disappointed SED TV fans unable to see it in action. This cannot help advance SED television technology at all. Comments please…

I got tired of waiting for SED, now I just want a nice LCD HDTV, their contrast ratios are going up, they are nowhere near what SED is going to oofer when it comes out, but I am pretty sure they will try to skim the market for the first couple of years with way above average prices, so an affordable SED TV is still a couple of years away. If they decided to go with a penetration pricing scheme and try and price them at or below the prices of LCDs and Plasmas though they would gain huge market share and blow the competition out of the water.

I think its all marketing tactics. Tosh has invested a lot in LCDs and they want their return. If SEDs are released to the market now all potential LCD buyers will definitely go for SEDs which are cheaper to produce (atleast that is what they say!!) and offer better color and image detail. Its when things like this happen you really start to hate these big players. Its a pity there is nothing we can do about it but wait…

I like this tech a lot but I think that buying an HD LCD while waiting for SEDs prices’ to go down is a good idea. nice find for me
